Lois "Gerry" Geraldine Sheckler, 91,

of Traverse City, peacefully passed away with her family by her side Monday, April 18, 2011. Gerry was born Sept. 2, 1919, in Columbus, Ohio, to
William and Fannie SPENCER

At the age of three Gerry moved to Grand Rapids, where she went to Creston High School and then attended Davenport College. She received an associate's degree in business there.

On Aug. 29, 1947, she married the love of her life, Linn Sheckler, after meeting him in college.

In 1967 they moved to Traverse City, where Gerry worked for Munson Medical Center Credit Union and soon became the manager. She later opened two gift shops in Traverse City, which she ran for over 20 years.

Gerry loved to go dancing, often square and round dancing. She could often be found taking care of her garden at home, working on crossword puzzles or watching Jeopardy

Gerry is survived by Linn, her husband of 63 years; three children, Kathleen (Michael) Gebhard, of Central Lake, Janet (Matthew) Stratton, of Grand Rapids, and Doug (Michelle) Sheckler, of Cedarville; and four beautiful granddaughters, Elizabeth (Jason) Jones, Jennifer (Conrad) Coipel, Kelly Sheckler and Jillian Burton.

Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, William and Fannie Spencer; sister, Margaret Minnie Wright; and brother, Percival Spencer.

Services for Gerry will be held at First Congregational Church on Thursday, April 21, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Gary Hogue will be officiating. There will be a luncheon and burial at Grand Traverse Memorial Garden following the service.

Succumbs to Stroke
       Linn E. Sheckler, 75, passed away suddenly Thurday morning, Jan 24,following a stroke suffered shortly before he was admitted in Douglas Community Hospital. 
        Mr. Sheckler was born in Warsaw, Ind. Sept. 26, 1881.  He came to Michigan when he was 18 years old  and moved to Fennville 20 years ago.He had retired several years ago from the Allegan  Count Highway Department where he had been employed for several years. He was a member of the Allegan County Board of Supervisors repre- senting Clyde Township, and also of the Fennville I.O.O.F.   He worked part-time as Fennvile School bus driver. 
        Surviving are the wife, Ethel, four sons, Merrill, of Allegan, Lester of Sparta, Linn E. Jr., of Grand  Rapids and Earl Lickley of Watertown, Mass, three daughters, Mrs.William Gibbs of Sparta, Mrs. Irwin
Hutchins of Fennville, and Mrs. Warren Tape of Caledonia;16 grandchildren and 23 great grand-
children. Also surviving are a brother Bruce of Petosky and two sisters, Mrs.Ralph Chase of  Traverse City, and Mrs. Paul Rupp of Gillead, Ohio. 
          Funeral services were held at the Chappell  Funeral Home,   Sun. Jan. 27, at 2:00 p.m.with the Rev. Willis Hunting of the Fennville Methodist  Church officiating. Pall bearers were:Clifford Smith, Lawrence Bale, Ernie Crane, John Weston,   Wayne Woodby, and William Sexton.    Burial was
at Rowe Cemetery in Allegan County.

....Services for Bruce Sheckler, 74, of Petoskey, who died yesterday at the Lockwood MacDonald Hospital where he had been a patient for one day, will be Friday 2 p.m. at the Stone Funeral Home.    Rev.  Lowell  MacFarlane,  of  the First Christian Church, will officiate and interment will be in the Ohioville Cemetery..He was born in Lewisburg Pa. November 26, 1893 and married Eunice May Stone in Petosky in 1915. Tthey made their home here.
.......Mr. Sheckler  worked  as  a  pressman  at  the  former
Petosky Evening News and as a carpenter and cabinet maker..He was a member  of  the   Petosky Figure Skating Club and was well known in this area as a figure skater.  He was active in the   Winter Sports Carnival  for  many  years  and instructed skaters in the art of figure skating. He was a member of the First Christian Church.........
......Besides his wife, he is survived by three sister, Mrs.
Hazel Chase of Indian River, Mary Weber of New Haven, IN and Edna of Galion,OH. The body is at the  Stone Funeral Home  where friends may.call...

MRS. SHECKLER DIES SATURDAY

........Mrs. Hannah C. Sheckler died Saturday evening at the cottage of her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Chase at Birchwood. She was 76 (77)years old.
....Born in Union township(Co), Pa., Feb.10,1864 (1863) she was united in marrage to George H. Sheckler in 1880 in Pennsylvania. Eight children were born to this.union.
Surviving are four sons, Linn Sheckler of Fennville, Harry and Alvin Sheckler of Battle Creek, Bruce Sheckler of Petosky;  three daughters, Mrs.Mary Webber of Belleview, OH, Mrs. Edna Rupe of Mt.Gilead OH and Mrs. Ralph Chase of this city. One daughter died in infancy, and Mr. Sheckler died in 1932.(1922)...................
....The  body was taken to the Sampson Funeral Home
where it will remain until Wednesday morning when the
funeral party will leave for  Colon, Mich., where services
will be held and burial made in the family lot in Colon Cemetery.
