CANE POLE

An inexpensive
long pole,
cut from a stalk
of bamboo.

No fishing reel or rod components
are required.

They were not taken on long fishing trips.

Cane poles are used for the stillfishing  of panfish like bluegills, sunfish, or rockbass.

Cane poles are usually from 10 to 15 feet in length.

There is no casting.

A fixed length of line is attached to the tip. The line is no longer than the length of the pole.

A bobber/float
is attached midway down the line and is adjusted according to the depth the hook is to sit.

A hook is attached to the end, with a 12 inch section of clear line to make it hard for the fish to detect water.

Fish are hooked  by lifting the line quickly out of the water as soon as the bobber is pulled under the water by the fish.
