Linn
started his family in Colon, MI. by marrying Ada
Snyder and having four children.
Ada
died in 1919 giving birth to their 5th child which also died. He
sent his two
daughters
to live with his brother Alvin and wife Hazel, in Battle Creek. Linn's
job of
truck
driving kept him on the road a lot.
<>
Linn
meet his second wife, Ethel
(Barnett) Lickley and settled in Battle Creek where
their
son Linn Jr. was born in 1923. Some time later they moved to
Grand Rapids
where
Linn took a job with Consumers Power Company. Keeping this job he
later
moved
to Sparta. Here his son Lester married Ileath Bird and daughter Treassa
married
Bill
Gibbs. Later Linn and Ethel moved to Allegan where Linn worked for
Blood Brothers.
Their
son Merriel became a farm hand and lived with Ray and Mable McNutt.
Daughter
Lois married Herman Bouwman.
Next
Linn, Ethel and son Linn Jr. moved to Fennville where he drove
road
graders and snow plows for the county. They first lived on the south edge
of
town but soon moved in to town to a white house that is still standing
across
the
street from the bank. The county garage was located where the bank
now is.
While
living in this house he built a new house, on the highest hill on the south
side
of
Hutchins Lake. It was about this time that all of their sons
served in the armed
services
during WWII. They all came back savely. At this home
at the lake,
Linn
raised turkeys, rabbits and built a boat which we all greatly enjoyed.
This is
where
my cousins and I did a lot of fishing. Linn's last job was driveing school
bus
for
Fennville Public Schools. It was at this job, driving to pick up the first
child,
that
he had a stoke, pulled the bus to a stop and later died in the Douglas
hospital. |
